Award – Winning artist Marlize creates highly individual pieces, striving to express both utility and beauty as successful complements. Using the expressive qualities of clay, composite shapes and colour, she turns strong forms and detailed surfaces into aesthetically pleasing vessels, objects and installations.

In her work Marlize explores a multiplicity of ‘styles’ and ‘languages’. These are characterized by two interests: one is of decorative vessels as carriers of a personal narrative, and the other is of forms whose beauty stems from their memory and pathways we take. Her work is neither commercial nor mass-produced. Every single piece is individually formed and shaped, then repeatedly glazed and fired. Marlize’s work is made mostly in stoneware and porcelain, hand-build, casted or wheel-thrown and finished with hand carving, slips and/or glazes

Marlize obtained a degree in Jewellery Design and Engineering in South Africa, Diploma’s in Ceramics and Jewellery Design at Box-HIlll Tafe. 2009 she participated in an artist residency program at the Cite Internationale Des Arts in Paris.
Marlize loves teaching ceramics, she teaches at Manningham Art Studios, Wyreena Art Studios and regularly gives workshops.

In 2015 Marlize started working in Jack Latti’s studio in Research Nillumbik, if they do not work on collaborations they do work hard on their own creations.

Her works have been exhibited in South Africa and Australia and feature in many private collections worldwide.
